XP laptop and external screen, HELP!!

i have a Compaq 1247 laptop, and tonight tried to use an external screen on it. Everythuing worked, so i though i should try different pixels for the two screens ( laptop 600 x800 and external LCD at 768 x 1024)...not i have no image on my laptop, and only a small screen thing on the external, but can't see taskbar, and can't open taskmananger, run command, and can't do the right click on desktop and select properties, i see the right click box, but after i click properties nothing happens.....what do i do...i need HELP!

 

Not sure how you will see this... but...
Just unplug the external monitor and power-down the laptop.
Should be OK after it reboots, perhaps with a scandisk run.

 

NOTHING worked, safe mode, system restore.....i could only fix it by reformatting and new OS installation. But i did try everything that should have worked..but it just didn't
