Xp Logs On And Immediately Logs Off

running XP
log in, get in, then immediately kicks the user back out to the log in screen

any ideas?

just posted, then lost, my post


OK,
he tried every variation in the F8 boot menu
and each time he got booted back out to the log on screen

last known good - did the same thing

so he tried "safe mode command prompt" and all that did was jump to the log in screen
I tried on mine and sure enough, you have to log on before it takes you to the command prompt.

Is there any way to get to the command prompt (cmd.exe) by bypassing the log on screen?

 

How do you get to the command prompt w/o logging in first?

Since logging in always results in getting bumped right back out to the log in screen.

 

Most of the work you will be doing is via Recovery COnsole, which you get by booting off of the CD, then pressing R when its done loading the inital files and says Welcome to Setup.
