XP lost start button/menu

Have lost XP start button & start menu. tried restore did not work. tried to download rock xp so i could reinstall XP but download did not take. Still need to fix problem any suggestions?

Two ways to try to fix this missing start button/start menu issue:
(1) Use the VBS File Registry Edit found here at Kelly's Korner:
Restore Taskbar and Desktop to Default Functionality (Scroll Down to Line 164)

(2) Download Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! I believe that you can use the "Hide or Show the Start Button" option -- without having to pay the $5.00 bucks Kelly’s Korner asks for the of the licensed version's more advanced functions.

NOTE: The Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! is a pretty cool tool to have stored away in the "Seldom Used Utilities" folder nonetheless!
