    Hello (again),

Dell Inspiron 9400 (5 years old) running Windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates.

You good people helped me on Monday to recover from a 'hal.dll missing or corrupted error'. The solution was to run 'bootcfg /rebuild' from the command prompt.

However, since then, my machine no longer powers off automatically when I shut down. All I get is the old 'It is now safe to turn off your computer'.

I have tried to resolve this by googling and found a post that required navigating to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion', creating a key called 'PowerdownAfterShutdown' and set the value to '1'. This I've done but didn't work!

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

    Tim
