    1. I have my problems fixed now for sure with the virus'. Cleaned up the regestry, etc.

    2. I have all anti-v programs removed except AVG 6.0, I am running free ZAlarm, SpyBot, SpyBlaster, Ad-aware SE
    And Free Ram Pro XP.

    3. My pc has 126 MB of Ram, with a 40 GB HD, 900 MHz, I have used 12 GB of space on the HD with my software and files.

    4. My question is this = At this moment Free Ram Pro shows me that I have 21 MB of Ram available. Do files and programs that are currently running use up Ram ?

    5. I can free more Ram manually as I just did, and now it reads 39 MB free. But why does it take a manual free to get it up ? Should it not have more ram available before a free up ?

If you can give me some info on this I would be very greatful. CT

128 MB of RAM is not enough for optimal performance of Windows XP. My bare minimum is 384MB, recommended 512 or higher.

I did try an upgrade and doubling the 128, it never read the added ram. I took it out and let it alone. I did all the things they instructed me to do to be sure the IDE or the socket was open and able to accept it. I could find no problems and just let it go for the time being. Maybe I did something wrong, I later learn't about handling the memory chip the correct way, and maybe I didn't do that right, ( touching the connector plug ). Not sure but that may have been my problem. So I will go back to fry's electronics and get another memory chip, (128) ...
    thanks for the info...... CT

I gave the techs at Fry's all the info I could find on the pc, they should have given me the correct ram for it. I remember I had a hard time getting it out of it's package. Like they have to package these things now days so you dern near need TNT to get into them. I remember that for sure, cause I thought after the fact that it didn't work and I could find no reason why. That I may have touched the connector. Anyway, I will open the case and get all the info inside that I can find also. This will be a good project for the weekend. Thanks CT

I purchased this pc new, so I do have the user guides that came with it also. It shows me that the M/B is a CN810. Hmmmmm.... It says I can change my Processor also. Could this M/B handle a P4 Processor ? Would it require a lot of re-configuration ? CT

Duh, shows you how much I remember, I can't remember DIMM from IDE........

128 mb of ram is relatively low. I run a machine with dual processors, both with 512 mb-- a total of 1023mb (I know my math, it's weird ). You should think of upgrading because 128 mb of ram is more geared for the earlier versions of windows.

    Get a better machine...

Well I did just purchase a new machine, guess I will just retire that older one now. I'll let the kids play with it, and if they tear it up I won't worry too much about it. At least it's clean and free of infections now. Oh well, I spent many hours fixing it for little of nothing.
    Thanks for the help..... CT
