xp & messenger stopping me from recieving video files

    anyone know how i can stop xp and messenger blocking vid files my mate sends me ,lets me down load then says xp has stopped you having this in case of virus.
    really annoys me ,what the hell has it got to do with them ,it doesnt even give me the option to decide myself?
    ive turned the firewall off but didnt seem to help .

    anyone know how to stop it?

    Best way to deal with this is by getting your mate to change the extention of the file to jpg then when you recieve it change it back to it original extention.
