Xp modem ? #@%^*&%@#$&

I had a glitch on my XP machine so I loaded XP again to see if it would replace the file that I deleted by mistake. Not sure if it did because now I can't connect to the internet on that computer.
I've gone to computer helper and it says my modem is fine and wonderful. I've gone into modems and done a query of modem and my modem is again doing what it's suppose to do. I've gone into "system" and there are no conflicts and "this device is working properly". I've completely deleted the modem and the machine reloads it and tells me I've been sucesful in doing so.
The problem is when I click my sign up it tells me there is no modem connected to the machine or that it is in service. I tried another ISP that I had laying around and the same message appears. Whats going on and what else can I do???? Thanks

 

Go here and download the reg file #87. I think this is the one that fixed my Dad's.

You may have to reboot to make it work.

 

Here it is at Microsoft. Basically tells you to do what the reg file does. Other than reinstalling SP1, that is the easiest way to do it.

My Dad is one of those computer illiterate people. He called me up one night after I went to bed to tell me about that problem. He always says he's gonna just toss the whole thing in the pond. I always get a kick out of that.
