xp not booting

Windows XP Media center
Dell Dimension 9150

Rebooted, get the Dell splash screen, get the initial windows XP with progress bar, then screen goes blank and never boots into the OS.

Tried booting Last Known Good Configuration, same problem.

Tried all Safe modes, stalls on AVGIDSEH.SYS

Tried booting from CD, get blue screen.

Replaced battery on motherboard because... why not!!

Running out of options?!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Update, I'm now able to boot from the CD to the recovery console.

Tried chkdsk C: /R

No help...

 

I'll look into the exact solution but this is AVG related (some sort of bad update). The fix has something to do with renaming some AVG files so they aren't loaded at startup. I only glanced at it before dinner but I'll take another look to see which files have to be renamed and whether or not you need the AVG recovery disc or if Recovery Console will do.

 

Looking at your computer specs (32bit) and that the problem I was seeing was remedied in early December I am thinking that it may not be the cause.

If no one else replies, I'll come back to this thread.

I started the "Setup Windows" option on the CD and performed the "repair" option... Seems to have fixed something... hopefully all files are intact. Before you invest much time let me see how this goes.

Seems to be continuing ok though...
