XP not seeing Hard Drive ???

What am I missing? Lost a hard drive. Got a new one, put it in the computer, loaded and setup with the disk. I did the bios, it sees it, ran the Disk Management, it says the hard drive passed and is there. But when I go to load XP it says there is no Hard Drive present. It did this to me when trying to recover the old hard drive, but I was using it and it was working ok. So what is the deal. I used the XP disk on another computer it worked fine. What did I miss to get XP to see the HArd Drive?

Is this a Pata (ide) or Sata harddrive?

If sata, make sure that the bios is not setup for raid on the sata drives.

 

If it's SATA, you'll need the floppy disk with the drivers on it. If not included with the motherboard, check the driver CD on a different PC for the SATA drivers (also called RAID by some manufacturers). Poke around, looking for a file/folder called 'makedisk' or 'f6setup' or 'SATAdisk'. If you can't find those, look in the driver folder for SATA/RAID until you find a file called 'txtsetup.oem'. Copy the contents of the folder with this file onto a floppy disk for your SATA F6 setup disk; and press F6 when you first see a blue XP setup screen, it'll say 'Press F6 to install third party SCSI or RAID drivers' at the bottom of the screen. Keep the floppy handy until setup asks for it, then remove it right before the PC does the first reboot (you'll see the red progress bar, 15 second countdown to reboot; this is when you remove the floppy disk, NOT before). I hope this helps! It sounds confusing, I know, but it's really pretty easy. If you don't have a driver CD to find the SATA drivers, hit the PC maker's web site and look for 'F6 Setup Floppy'. Most makers use this term for the needed drivers...
