XP only starting on /basevideo

Im having issues with my other PC, its running on a 7300 GS. So last night in the middle of the night i think it locked up because when I woke up the PC was locked up on the screensaver.
I then reboot and everytime it gets to the loading screen it locks up. So i did the whole malware removal process and it found a few things but its now clean.

I ran the chkdsk and repaired that also. But its still locked up on the loading screen.

So I then booted windows on /basevideo and it loads fine, i uninstalled the video card drivers and downloaded the latest drivers and installed that. But now if i try to change the resolution in /basevideo it locks up or if I try to startup windows xp without /basevideo it also locks up. Does this mean the card is bad?
