    Hello all:

I'm a reasonably capable user but am having MASSIVE problems with my machine. It's an IBM ThinkPad T40 (Type 2373) running XP Pro.

It crashes constantly: driver errors, Blue Scrren O' Deaths, hang ups, lock ups, self reboots, all. I have stripped out every non IBM and MS software that I can except: Mozilla (1.71), Norton AV 2003, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Plaxo. I'm running a full suite of MS apps: Money, Frontpage (2003), Office Pro (2003).

A quick look at the system info showed that Frontpage was causing a lot of problems. And the Event Viewer shows a lot of "CI Service" (huh?) related problems.

I'll be calling IBM to work with them later in the week but wonder if anybody has useful suggestions in the meantime. Thanks.

Appropriate screen shots are attached as .DOC files.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

Welcome to MG.:) C'mon you XP experts, give this guy a hand. I don't use XP but would uninstalling and re-installing Front Page be a start? Bazza.

While you do have Frontpage problems, they probably aren't rebooting you, or causing blue screens. Wrong type of error. FP is just hanging.

Reboots, stop errors, and the like have a source of system error.

These docs are really tough to read, by the way.

Your best bet is to post the stop errors, the stop code, and any filenames mentioned.

If you can't see the error, you need to turn off automatic restart.

Go to System Properties, advanced, startup and recovery settings and uncheck automatically restart.

    Guys:

Thanks, I was travelling this weekend so this is the 1st chance I've had to check back in.

    Some additional comments:

    1) I don't think I've run FP for the majority of those hangs.
    2) I have re-installed the OS on this $%@#*&^!! thing no less than 10 times, still an issue.

I think #2 confirms the comment that it's OS related. I was hopping that one the forum readers would have battled this evil before.

I'll call Big Blue tomorrow and post the results.

    Cold Beers,

    Jim
