XP Pro and Home?

I just bought a hard drive from ebay that had Pro? installed on it? Well it booted up to a screen showing it was installing pro but it never went off. So i installed home after i deleted all partions and all went fine.Then when i went to restartit to install all the Dell drivers (it's a Inspiron 1100) the boot screen asked which OS to boot too???? Pro or Home?? I tried pro but it said it cant be found to reinstall it again.I thought reformating andall that would get rid of it? What the heck do i do now> Home stars fine.

 

can you boot into home?
If so I would remove the XP Pro references in your boot.ini
Get into that with MSCONFIG and click on the boot.ini tab.

 

Home works fine..except i have to get SP2 downloaded. I'll try that and see what comes about! Thanks for such a super fast reply!! Maybe one day I can answer question other than how di i turn it on/off ! ha ha ha

To throw a spanner in the works,

What you have done is removed the entry from your start options, but there are still XP Pro files, a partition or previous installation on your hard drive.

You must not have deleted the partition or formatted it.


If you don't remove the previous installation completely, it will more than likely create problems in the future.

I would delete all partitions, then create a Primary Partition and format using NTFS, then install Windows.
