As soon as you power on the computer, start hitting the F8 key (on the top row of keys on the keyboard, just in case ;)). A screen should pop up. Using the down arrow key, select "Last Good Configuration" and see if Windows loads that way.

    Hope that helps!

Dumb question time: Did you recently reinstall Windows and are now having this issue or is this an all of a sudden thing?

I was in the process of erasing the hard drive to reinstall windows xp when it suddenly stopped in the process of erasing, noe it says error in starting OS,also showed hal/dll was missing or corrupt

You need to wipe the drive properly before you proceed, once you started wiping it, parts of the OS will have been deleted, thats why it wont boot.

Ther is probably a problem with whatever you use to wipe so Use this instead --> http://majorgeeks.com/Active_KillDisk_d4791.html

You need to downlaod and burn it as an iso image file to be able to boot from it.

When you boot it their should be an option to do a "two pass" disk wipe, choose that one.

Once it has finished wiping the disc you should be able to install XP without problem.

    :)

yes I tried switching off and on but with the same results, loaded the file you suggested as a iso file, it boots to the blue screen listing all the programs you can run but when I press the up and down arrows it doesn't respond also when I press enter to run it ,it still doesn't respond (like it is frozen).

Hey trash, that "Have you tried switching it off and then back on again?" is part of my sig' it appears at the bottom of all posts i make, it was not directed at you specificaly :)

As for your problem booting the disc, Try burning the disc again at a slower rate and then boot from it again.

I slowed the speed down to 4x but still have the same results,it boots up to the blue screen and that is where it stays, like it is frozen. Tried switching on/off with no different results

Hey trash, do you have a USB keyboard?

If so, can you connect a PS2 type to the PC and try again?

Or enter the BIOS and look for and enable any settings relating to USB legacy devices?

Glad you got it sorted, what fixed it?

BTW, I don't recommend using those "driver update programs" and i dont know of one i trust.....

Either google drivers for your make/model or ask in here :)
