XP Pro concurrent connections?

I have been searching for a straight forward answer about XP Pro's concurrent connection limitations and have not satisfied my questions. I know "10" is the advertised number but I have read that this can be increased. But it all seems to refer to Internet connections. 1. Is it limited by protocol, TCP/IP, UDP etc? 2. Can it actually be increased, to lets say use 1 PC for file storage and admin in a 20 PC workgroup so that all could connect with out issues? thanks.

There is no limit on concurrent connections. It is a limit on incomplete outbound connection attempts. It is a common misconception.

Could you explain or direct me to somewhere that can, what exactly "simultaneous incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts" are..thats a mouth full! Thanks again and excuse my ignorance...after all im only a private!

 

To the best of my knowledge, those are connections your computer tries to make to other computers which haven't received a response either because it is an invalid IP address or the other computer doesn't respond.

If you want to test it, get a virus or worm.

 

Nahh I think I'll pass on the virus test. Have had enough of that crap for a while! I did find some more info about my connection question. http://forum.suprnova.org/index.php?showtopic=725 For those interested. It basically says (from my interpetation) that there is no limit to complete connections. Hence, the 10 connection limit is a myth. Still looking for conformation though?
