XP Pro home network...Needs help!!!

I am running Win XP Pro on my desk to with a Linksys WRT54gS with a cable modem. I have (4) laptops that all have XP pro on them I have setup a workgroup and connected them all together and everything has been running fine. Last week I installed Norton 2007 antivirus and now the desktop can not be seen in the workgroup. I disabled norton and still no luck. I can ping the laptops from the desktop I can RDP from the laptops to the desktop but it still is not seen in the workgroup. I have setup new workgroups on all of the computers setup new shares on printes, folders... still nothing. It does not make any sense XP pro --- Linksys --- Network should communicate with no problems. Any suggstions would be greatly appreciated.

 

installing norton was a bad idea i think youve learned your lesson there! try avg its free and its the best, did you say you can ping this pc from the other networked machines? if so then they are comunicating try disableing your firewall, only for now, re-enable it when your done, with the firewall off set up the network from that pc again, you should join the same work group, and if so you should be able to see the other pcs, even if they cant see you, let me know how you get on! :major i-CONICA :major

 

Check through the Norton antivirus firewall, and disable the firewall feature. Also check on other antivirus or Windows firewall, disable those firewall features as well. It should work.. not difficult. Also it's better for all computers named with same workgroup.

If you need to run firewall, make sure you configure to allow folder/printer sharing traffic to pass through.
