Hey, so I'm trying to install XP pro on a new build. Start the computer, cd runs and goes to "Welcome to Setup" screen. Press enter: done. "License Agreement": Press F8, done. I delete any partitions on the drive seeing as I've been going through this over and over. Press enter, L to delete partition... yadda yadda. Now I press "C" to create a partition and enter the size. Next, I press enter to install on the selected partition. Format the partition is next and done. I formatted using NTFS and I did not do the quick format option. Setup goes through the whole process of creating the file list and copying of various files. Finally, I'm at the "Press Enter to Restart" and I just let it reboot on it's own. Now here's the problem... This entire process starts over again. Says setup is gathering your system information or some jargon. Am I wrong or shouldn't it boot from the cd and show the Windows XP boot screen???? It will not get to this point at all. I have the cd-rom as the 1st boot device followed by the Hard drive. Anyone steer me in the right direction here? After some minor problems assembling, this is the last thing I needed right now. Always appreciate the help/ or advice... thanks!

It's restarting because you left the cd in the drive and the cdrom is the first boot device. So it see's the cd and then starts the install.

Once the computer resets the first time remove the cd, or change the boot order so the HD comes before the cdrom.

How about just removing the CD from the drive before you restart? As long as you have the BIOS set to Boot from CD first in the order, you will never boot from the HD as long as there is a bootable CD in the drive. BTW, you will never see a Windows splash screen when booting from the CD.

All is good. Problem was with the boot order. Put in another cd-rom and set it to try the cd-rom, then dvd-rom, then HDD. Seemed like the order should have worked before but I'm not complaining since it's working. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hey friend, it sounds like you have successfully installed XP on the HDD. I would take the CD out and set the boot order to HDD first in the BIOS. Then it should boot from the HDD. If this doesn't work, they do another post. I hope it helps, John A. Rish:wave
