    Hi
I will make the initial story as short as i can. I download alot of viruses in one shot, after I did a repair my wife went through major geeks forums to find ways to remove the viruses, good job guys. It took her a long time and she left the pc on through the night with the viruses still in there. They are gone now.
So i tried another repair from the xp pro cd, this time when it asked for a password the previous password did not work. I went into safe mode and found the administator account and put one in, appearently it was deleted by the virus. (problem solved) or so it seems. now I cannot download any updates or nortons 360 only small admin tools and misc. stuff.
Ok , i can get pass the password but it afterwards ask which os i want to repair I choose 1. c:\ windows. then it shows C:\windows> then it stops at the command line. What can cause this.:confused

If the viruses are all gone, why are you attempting a Repair? As you said that you did a Repair once, then it would be the same this time. As for stopping at the command prompt, that is what it is supposed to do. You have to enter a command in order for it to go further. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000627.htm.

Did your wife make a thread in the Malware Removal forum and get assistance from one of the people there and get a clean bill of health for this PC from them? If not, that is the first thing that I would do!

Welcome to Major Geeks and hope this helps! :)

Oringinally, I downloaded an antimaleware to help get rid of the problem it indentified the keys and when I asked it to delete them it could not, so then I asked it to quarantine them the viral program started with a timer and shut down. I tried again 2 more times. After the third time it would not start windows only a blue screen. So I did a repair from the disk. then my wife decided to try to remove the problem out of the registry.
No, she read some articles of people who had similar problems and downloaded a software that would give the location of the registry keys that is causing the problems. then she went onto winreg and deleted those indentified keys.

Although the computers symptoms appeared the same, it could be that there are also other problems that weren't fixed.

I believe that it would be best if you made a thread in the Malware Removal section after reading and following all the instructions in the Read Me and Run Me First sticky note.

Without knowing what malware that you had and what registry keys were deleted, it is hard to give any advice and doing so in the Software Forum is frowned on. It is not uncommon for malware to remove administrator rights ( password issue ) and block updates to Windows and security software. :)
