Quick question. A relative in the UK took her HD to the shop. It had XP home on it. It was messed up. The tech saved her data and formatted it. She then took it home and installed XP Pro, which the tech gave her. (I don't know why)

Anyway, it doesn't see her sound card. It's probably got onboard sound on the Motherboard, but I'm assuming the OS would see that.

Any ideas why it doesn't see a sound card?

Man, she's over there and I'm over here. I don't think it has a card. I think it's on board sound. I don't know where the drivers would be. In the case that came with the motherboard?? She probably still has it somewhere.

Looking back at my original post, I didn't make it clear that she probably doesn't have a card. It's on board sound, but she's asking me why the OS is saying there's no sound card. It needs pointing in the right direction or something....

If MOBO has onboard sound, Bios may have setting to enable or disable it.
What brand & model MOBO or Puter is this?

Or if actual sound card, Is it properly seated?
Again Bios settings can affect, you wouldnt want onboard enabled if ya got a sound card installed.

As someone posted, check Device manager for problems.

You need to install the drivers, for some motherboards.Ask her to install every driver on the cd.

If she can not find the cd for the MOBO to install the drivers, have her look for a model number on the motherboard. Go to the manufacturers web site and download new drivers. While inside the computer have her check if it has a sound card installed.

My mobo has onboard sound and no, XPpro did not see it.

Try downloading driver from mobo manufacturers site, if you don't know what mobo it is, try driver from soundmax, most mobo's use soundmax driver
