XP pro recovery install?

Hello there you sexy beasts Looks like i'll be spending friday night in fixing a family members computer In not sober ,the computer in question has been used to surf the internet with limited protected,it may out of frustration been unplugged while turned on. ,anyway the computer loads until the xp splash screen,a quick bsod too fast to read then the process starts over.

It does exactly the same thing in safe mode,last known good configuration and command prompt.I have gone for a recovery install using the xp pro cd,the recovery went as planned,the installing windows screen loaded,setup will complete in 39 mins,after waiting for 10 and nothing changing a fatal Error box appeared

Setup failed to install the product catalogs.This is a fatal error.The setup log files should contain more information

I think the harddrive is just too corrupt to salvage,I have ran through this process 4-5 times now with the same error,upon closing the box the computer just restarts I would like to give the computer back with all the apps if possible though any help is greatly appriciated

Is this computer quite old? If you can upgrade the bios to a newer version then this should resolve the issue..I am following this advice from HERE

Have you plugged in anything knew into the usb like a printer or mouse? Neo2 and Neo4s have an issue with the usb. I built mine with a Neo4 and had the same problem until I unplugged my printer.

I have been given the go ahead to format anyways thank god,its taken too long already,then I'm gonna install halflife and see what this puppy can do

 

Naaaah my Radeon 9000 is just a bit bigger than that
