    Hi all...

I always create a custom sounds profile with my builds.. mostly to remove the win startup and shutdown sounds to eliminate that teeny bit of time it takes to play them. Anyway, I have noticed, with my current box, that even though I have no sound selected to play, during the logon I see the message "playing logon sound" and it is accompanied by a significant pause in the bootup.

Apparently choosing no sound be played at windows startup is, effectively, choosing to play a chunk of silence... rendering the whole reason for setting the sound profile that way a complete waste of effort.

Anyone know how to tell windows to NOT PLAY A SOUND as opposed to PLAY SILENCE?

    thanks...

This is the only way I know how to shut off sounds, is this what you already do?

"To disable all Windows XP task sounds go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Sounds and Audio Devices", select the "Sounds" tab, under "Sound Scheme" select "No Sounds"."

I don't disable all of them, but I create a new profile with only the sounds I want... but yes, that is where I contol them.
