XP Pro SP2 card recognition, or Not.

I am trying to install a Belkin F5U220 USB 2.0 PCI card in an older computer running XP Pro SP2. The computer in question is an AMD K6-2 450 with 512 ram. Purportedly the XP and SP2 were the results of a clean install by another. I used Windows update to add all currently available updates except journal. Belkin sez the required NEC drivers are included with XP SP1 or later however this AMD system will not recognize the card at all. I tried this same card in my personal system which is a much newer P4 3.2 also running XP Pro SP2 and the card is recognized and the appropriate NEC drivers are loaded and all is well. The OS seems to work correctly on the AMD system in other respects and is stable. I do not know if the services have been dinked with. Is there a way to reset the services to install default settings? I am at a complete loss as what to do next.
Your help will be most appreciated. I hope I have provided enough and the correct information as this is my first post.

Errhmm.... chipset drivers up to date? Seems like you've updated all drivers, but chipset drivers might have somthing to do with it.

 

Thanks for your response. There is a "USB Patch" listed on the PCCHIPS web site but it made no difference. I tried to update the BIOS but ran into some difficulties there also. AMI BIOS Update said the system does not support flash update, and the Quick update proceedure does not work as they describe, ie; hold down both CTRL+HOME while powering up. The system just skips right to memory count and boot. The MB is a PCCHIPS 598.90. My current BIOS String is; 52-0311-001437-00101111-071595-000000-598_90_8670_H. This guy really is going to need USB interfaces but I am quickly running out of ideas. Thanks again for your thoughts.

 

PS; Trying a different slott was the first thing I tried.
