    I was suggested to post this in the Software Forum and have been completely through the Malware Forum with no Malware found. Here is the original Posting:

    As precise as I can.....this is a friend's PC that was working fine up to about a week or 2 ago. Now it has got slow. Whem I first started looking into the problems, I found he has downloaded Pareto Logic File Cure and appartently it also brought down and installed something called Mapsgalaxy. I found this by noticing a process called 39brmon and another called 39srchmn. When I researched these I found they were related to the Mapsgalaxy and were Ad/Spyware. I ran MBAM and Kaspersky to clean it up. I still had issues. I then noticed his Trend Micro Protection expired in July, but it's Services were still running. I un-installed all that too. Then I checked his MS Updates and found he was quite a bit out on them too, so I brought them current and allowed MS Security Essentials to install. Then I ran a complete MS Scan which found 4 more Ad/Spyware or Viruses which I cleaned. This all seemed to help a bit but there is still some slowness in the machine. I I right click any Icon for a Proghram, App or even a File, the Choices window pops up right away. If I select anything other than "Properties" like rename, Copy, Print...that action takes place immediately. If I select Properties though it takes 50 seconds for the Properties window to pop up. Most Programs and Apps start fairly quick, but some pause for about 60 seconds and if they were in a Folder, the Folder window at the top says "Not Responding" for about 1 minute then goes to normal when the Program does start up. He uses IE a lot (Version 8) and that pulls up the Home Page quick, but then freezes for about 90 seconds before it will let you do anything at all. Even if you click the Slider, it will bring up the Hour Glass until IE starts responding again. I installed FireFox as a test against IE and FF is normal speed, no delays. Any ideas what (if anything) I am dealing with here??

    The Title of the thread says XP Pro SP3.

    @keithaw1

    Does your friend have any add-ons installed for IE? Disable all of them and see if that improves performance.
