XP Pro (sp3) Audio Problem

Hi.

I'm experiencing a problem that only started today on my work pc that seems to have affected the audio. I am using a Plantronics CS60-USB and some phone software (PCS50) by Splicecom and only since this morning, when I try and use the softphone, instead of the normal dial-tone, all I can hear very degraded sound, like the old music on zx spectrum games; it's very odd and as I say, has only started this morning!

It seems to have affected all sounds on my machine and is not only related to the software I use to make calls on. I have tried switching to using the Realtek-97 audio drivers, but nothing happens... there is no sound?!?

Can anyone suggest what might be causing the degraded sound quality, I am thinking it might have something to do with the Microsoft CS60 drivers??

P.S. It's very difficult to understand what I can hear, but the only analogy I can think of that sounds similar is that bit on the Matrix movie where keanu reeves takes the blue pill and then you see the camera enter his mouth and you hear the sound breakdown into low frequencies! (silly, I know) :s

 

Try unistalling the drivers, then reinstalling, see if that does the trick !

 

Already tried that to no avail. I just can't understand the why or how it is happening!? :-\
