    Hello-
I started having issues with the Autoplay settings a while ago. Even now, every time I log off and back on to my pc I have to run the ODD's through the Repair Wizard. This has become very annoying, to say the least.
I am thinking that some of the Security Patch updates from Microsoft have done something to the system.
The problems have to do with Policies and a Shell issue. Can anyone help me out with this, please?
    Thanks in advance!

Can you explain it a little differently? Autoplaying settings --> Repair Wizard upon log on. What is "ODD's", is that an abbreviation? I am not familiar with it. *I am not familiar with the security patches Microsoft pushed out for XP, I moved on to Win 7 =( but I will look into it for you when I get the reply =) *

Yea, it might be a problem with your Policies, but we'll see :)

Thanks for the reply, 'Xenith'. First, ODD's= Optical Disk Drives.
Of further note, see attached .txt files for Autofix logs. All registry settings appear fine.
Example of issue: If I insert a DVD into either D: or E:, I have the Autoplay settings established to open DVD Fab 8- a burning program. If I insert a CD with music content, Autoplay settings on D: are set to open CDBurnerXP, on E: > open Media Player, etc.
Even after running Autofix>Restart twice per drive (for 2 separate policy 'repairs'), the function still doesn't work.
I can't explain it in any simpler terms.

Tried Fixit to enable autorun? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715
scroll to the bottom of the page.

You can also pick through the registry and check the settings (further down below the fixit button) or use Group Policy, which works in XP Pro.

Thanks, 'plodr'- Yeah, I had tried a prior MS FixIt for this, however I think it was a different ID than the one you provided. I got an error with it.
I just ran the link you provided, and it appears to have worked!
As far as 'gpedit.msc' in my System, the function for AutoPlay seems to be missing in Computer Config> Administrative Templates. Not sure why...
We changed the value in the Reg from '143' to '95', and at present, things seem to be working OK. We'll see!
When we ran the AutoFix download, on both drives- 2 repairs per- it was a pain doing all the restarts.
    Thanks, I appreciate your input!

Glad you got the help you wanted. I'm actually looking into all the things you said. I felt so lost in this area, ha, so I will brush up on it so that I will not be so 'googley eyed' when reading stuff like this.

    Autoplay... heh.

*Thanks plodr I feel bad when I say I'll help someone and end up not knowing what to do. Way to save a man's face! =]
