Hello ... I'm am trying to do a fresh install of xp pro ... I searched the board for help but there was nothing similar to my problem. The search engine is terrible by the way ... rolleyes
I installed a new mobo and am trying to do a fresh install of xp pro ... I think it's the sp1 ... it will go through the first part, completely formatting the drive and all ... then when it state the first part has been successfully installed and to reboot which it does ... it starts the installation all over again.:cry When it gets to the part of where to put the OS ... I assign it to the one drive and it tells me an operation system already exists yet if I take the cd out when it reboots ... nothing ... when I leave the cd in ... it starts the installation all over again. Any clues as to what is happening.:confused
It's not a new drive it a 20G that was used for storing data. It never had a OS installed on it.
Do a fresh install they say ... when you install a new mobo they say ... will reduce problems they say ... :p
    Ah HELP!:-o

Are the jumpers on the HD set to Master? Check the label on the HD to see jumper settings.

It sounds like BIOS is recognizing the HD as there but when the installation tries to boot from the HD for the second part it doesn't see it as a boot device.

Yes ... the hd is set to master ... I made sure of that ... I agree for some reason the installation doesn't see the hd ... can't figure that one out.

Just want to make sure you are using the jumper for that particular brand of HD. Different brands have different settings and if you have been trying different HDs, I just want to make sure you're going by the label or markings on the HD you have in there now.

Your boot order is set CD then HD? HD is definitely in the list?

I'm walking out the door but I will think about it.

You have to have a boot order. Look through every menu in your bios to find it. Sometimes they put it in weird places.
