Xp problems

i am running xp pro and here lately i have noticed that i cannot download certain programs and also upload pictures. i tried rebooting and also the error check feature windows has built in but nothing helps. i tried to do a system restore but when the window comes up the window is blank. also when i went to do a file search for it it too was blank. i went to the user account and also the window was blank. it is like cretain windows i go to they are blank and i don't know why. how can i fix this problem and how do i fix it thanks.

Last year a friends PC had pretty much the same issues as yours does, and the instructions in the above document corrected them.

I never did track down what had corrupted her registry to begin with, but I suspected some kind of malware, or a program that had a poorly written uninstall routine. Once I did the registry repair, I scanned her system with some malware tools (Spybot Search and Destroy for one) and installed Avast Antivirus Free to replace her expired Norton bloatware. I set Avast to run a boot scan. Some net-nasties were found and removed . . . and it has run problem free for 11 months now.
