Followed XP Malware Removal instructions. Logs posted. Sadly when running Hitman I couldn't get it to ignore deleting the results so log may reflect it. It found 17 items originally but they were deleted before I could get a log. Oops! Machine functions fairly normal but user has complained of spamming or receiving more spam than usual and also redirects reminiscent of BHO presence. Thanks in advance.

Please downloadComboFix to your desktop. Turn off any AV software you have before you run it. Attach the log when finished.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).Make sure that you watch for the license agreement for TrendMicro HijackThis and click on the Accept button TWICE to accept ( yes twice ).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks TimW. Things are looking up. I don't have the pop-up showing anymore when I first open Firefox. I'm pretty sure it was a redirector as it hovered over the homepage until you said OK or hit the x. I always hit the x as hitting Okay usually ends terribly. Take a look and let me know what you see. Things definitely ran smoother after Combofix as with my experience before it really gets the dirt out :-D

Just to be sure, re-run RogueKiller and attach the log.

Here's the RogueKiller report you requested. I noticed in the report it shows a lot of items in the local hosts file that don't belong besides the usual localhost 127.0.0.1. Is all that other stuff supposed to be there after cleaning? I don't remember that stuff being missed. What should I use to clean it out?

Your logs are clean. Your hosts file is fine. Those items are there to stop you from connecting to potentially infected sites.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
