    Hello, all.

I've been enjoying a relatively trouble-free experience with XP Pro/SPII (for those of you who have followed my previous and numerous lamentations). With that being said, I have had a few things happen since the install....

On four occasions, and only when logged on with my ID (not my wifes) Windows inexplicably went into restart mode; that is, it did exactly what it does when one hits the restart button. I was able to log on to my wife's ID, and I ran a chkdsk /f on my C drive (maybe a stupid idea?) but it worked.

Also, I have been getting an inordinate number of error messages (microsoft generated) which occur without predictability. For example, I might be unable to launch Firefox. Or, I might get an error message, close it down, and everything works. Next time, Firefox works great, but maybe I'll get one when I launch Word. Or Outlook. It's never the same one twice.

I have mixed feelings about sending error messages but now I have no problem inundating Microsloth with them. Sometimes I get 10-12 a day (however, I do spend a lot of time on the puter, both professionally and personally) and now I send them all off to MS. Even with this prob this machine is way better than it was, but I'm beginning to get scared.....

If I got the same error every time I opened up a certain program, I'd feel better. These are random and unpredictable. For those of you familiar with my tale of woe; when I was using SPI with a corrupt OS I almost never got them.

Aside from being annoying I'm afraid of some OS problem(s) creating this issue. Some people I know laugh and say it's just the nature of the beast, but I'd feel better hearing it from you guys.

BTW-everything is working great aside from this. My boot sequence is about 400-500% faster, and my apps launch almost with the click of a button (except, of course, for Acrobat. Adobe has apparently committed to making us wait 30-45 secs for their apps to load no matter what!)

My HD is partitioned, and wifey and I each have our own 40Gb drive with copies of all of our stuff on them, so I'm not nearly as afraid of another crash.

I ran into a guy with an "I build with AOpen" t-shirt on, and I cornered the poor fool and made him listen to my tale of woe.

He laughed at me and said I needed to change out my Mobo (which is an ECS 865 PE-A).

If you are only having this problem with your profile and not your wife's, then it sounds like your profile is corrupt. Create a new profile for yourself and see if you continue to have problems.

You referred to yours and your wifes profiles, then later referred to you and your wife having seperate partitions....does that mean you actually installed windows on each individual partition (dual boot system)!! Another words...do you select what to boot too...or do you wait till windows boots, and then select who is logging in??
