Press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode

    Info on safe mode

I would try: Last Known Good Configuration, but wait for a more advanced user to confirm, best choice.

You can also look in event log prior to see what caused the issue.

safe mode and last known do not work nothing works. I may have to just reload my os but can't until I get a replacement key from MS I've heard it's almost impossible. Any other ideas?

Sorry without a) XP cd and b) product key, don't know of a way to reinstall XP.
You can contact MS support if you registered and get the product key. Once you have the key, you can then request replacement CD if you still can't find your CD.

Before you decide that you need to install the OS from scratch, rule out some hardware causing it. Open the case, be sure it is clean and all fans are working because heat buildup can cause a reboot. Look at the power supply, does it seem to be working? A failing power supply can cause reboots. If you happen to have a tester see if the power supply is good. If no tester, can you borrow a power supply to put in your system to see if that's the problem? If it seems clean, the power supply is good and the fans work, take out all but one stick of RAM and boot up. Do this for each stick because bad RAM also causes reboots.
There might be other causes for the reboots but those are the ones I'm familiar with.
You said safe mode and last known good configuration don't work. What happens?

Hi there have you tried to press f5 or f8 and come to the safemode selection at all.

If you can get that to boot to there go to safemode command prompt.

Then when safemode command prompt come up in DOS mode type in help… this will bring up a list of commands you can use.

The first one I would type in is chkdsk = Checkdisk ( I think that’s the command spelling chkdsk )

Note if the commands scroll to fast press pause/break key on your keyboard and enter to start rescrolling down the page to you find the command lines you want to run on your computer.

Also another thing I find that will stop your computer from booting up is you graphic card driver might of crashed or misplaced a file.

Plus if you manually shut down the computer by shut down button it will sometimes misplace files on the registry file and the system will not boot or will keep restarting at some part of the bootup.

Another way you can do this is if you have a 2nd pc handy take the HDD drive out that is not working then put it in the 2nd computer as a slave drive and right click on the drive, then go to properties then to the tools tab at the top on that page. You will find tools like check disk, defragmenter, and backup. If you do not have backup on there most times that means you have xp home installed. You can install the backup program onto you computer even with xp home it is on the xp home cd/dvd rom you might have to look up the net to teach you how to install this tool off the cd/dvd rom.

Another question I have for you when the blue screen comes up dose your computer beep in any way or make beeping sounds. If so it’s a hardware problem and can be fixed 95% of the time by just taking out the parts and testing them 1 at a time like if you have more then 1 ram stick in your computer take them out and run one at a time, take the graphics card out and reinstall it warning if ATI card it dose not like to be pull out and put back in again because of the catalyst software on the hdd and can course boot up problems.
If all that dose not work do a clear CMOS and set the motherboard back to its defaults and try again from there.
Disconnect your dvd or cd rom drive and if left hooked up make shore there is not a disk in the drive that might be making it crash for some reason.

Also not if you get it working and you have played with the hardware and you have genuine xp sp2 with wpa on it you will have to reactivate your version of windows as by playing around with the hardware it changers some of the 10 setting that must not change in the wpa files log.

Best of luck Hope this info helps

Hi again just another way you might be able to fix the computer and your problems with corrupted files, you can learn how to fix them easy.

    Required
    Windows XP operating system
    Windows XP cd

Place the xp cd in your cd/dvd drive
    Go to start
    run
type in 'sfc /scannow' (without the ')

Now it should all load, and fix all your corrupted file on windows XP.

    Hope this helps cya
