XP Reboots when USB drive added

Hi - hope someone can help

My work laptop has started rebooting whenever I add my USB drive. I am running Wndows XP v5.1 Build 2600 xpsp2.030422-1633 : service pack 1.

It was working fine but suddenly started rebooting the moment I attach the drive (also does it when drive attached at bootup) & it keeps rebooting.

Tried my USB drive on other PC's and it's fine - alst tried other drives that work fine but they all cause my laptop to keep rebooting.

While our desktops are tightly controlled by Corporate, other staff can easily access USB drives so don't think it is any limitation there.

Please, can anyone help?

 

Windows XP is set to reboot on a crash by default.

So, what is happening is your USB driver is conflicting with something else. You might want to check for updates. Also, are you using a cd emulator, such as Alcohol 120%?

but USB drive didn't need drivers loaded for XP - just attach it and it always worked - then suddenly it didn't. I haven't made changes but corporate may have remotely.

I don't really want to go to corpoarte with the issue as they have everything so tightly controlled they may just elect to stop me using a USB Drive (it's not banned at the moment and it's handy for taking large spreadsheets home to work on - my home PC is way faster with them).

The error signature is: BCCode : 35 BCP1 : 81573C68 if that helps in any way.
