I am doing a clean install of xp on my Sony Vaio pcv RS220 desktop. I had xp home edition sp3 and I have made recovery cd's for sp1, 2, and 3. I also have a xp professional sp3 install disc that I received through a school program. Initially I installed the xp pro cd because that is where I want to end up, everything went fine, but all my preloaded sony drivers were gone so I had to find those online. It wasn't working quite right still, so I decided to load my xp sp2 recovery cd. That went good, all functions are there, so then I loaded the xp pro cd again and selected that it upgrade to pro. Now Windows loads, I get to the user name screen. The user name takes at least a few minutes to load, sometimes never loads and then the desktop displays, but nothing else ever does. No taskbar, no start menu, just the mouse pointer, but no clicks or hot keys work.

I have since tried to reinstall my recovery cd's of xp he and now I get a menu that says to insert recovery cd vol. 1 and press ok. I've tried all 3 of my xp he cds and they all get the same menu. I've tried reloading the xp pro cd again doing a full install and just a repair, and I always get stopped at the blank desktop...

    Any ideas???
