XP-reformatted but disc is scratched

I was having to many problem to fix them all so I reformatted. The disc didn't look bad but some minor scratches won't let the USB files load (three of them). There were many that wouldn't load but some disc repairing has gotten me all but three corrupted files.

It's in good shape, but no USB devices are recognized.

I used roadkills unstopable copier but those three files still don't get through.

Any way to get them short of a new disc? I don't know anybody locally running XP PRO. Just home editions.

can you maybe get it through windows update? like plug in the device and let it auto detect drivers from microsoft website and just bypass the disc all together?

 

It won't work.

Microsoft will replace the CD, if you call them.

 

with plugging in - maybe not, if your allready logged in mate you may just be able to visit windows update - and ask it if your missing anything

failing that - you may be able to do the same through device manager

hmm, ive been googling and ive found out the best way would probably be to go to the manufacturers website for your motherboard - because the way i see it there are no 'generic' usb drivers outside of the actual xp disk itself - so, if u can figure out your motherboard, make and model, they should be on there website - with a bit of luck =D

 

Drivers are probably not the issue. It's easy having drivers, but if the OS can't recognise what a USB port actually is and does due to missing OS files, then drivers are nigh on useless.

Have you tried cleaning the CD with a proper cleaning kit? (they should be very cheap and widely available)

im used to forums deleting threads that old or locking them...
