A friend just did a safe reload of XP Home. But for some reason, all his documents are not in the My Documents folder for the user name he entered during the reload. If we go to C:\Documents and Settings there's a folder called Owner (which has nothing but the default XP stuff) and one called Administrator that has all of his docs, pictures, etc.... All the shortcuts are also gone, the wallpaper is gone, and the sound drivers are gone, video drivers are gone, etc.... should we just back up the Admin folder to CD, wipe and reload, or is there a way to resurrect the old Admin account?

As they say in the sale of the century

    "when its gone its gone"

That is if its not on the disk its gone.

I'm not sure what you mean by user name entered during reload?

When you install WinXP, there's 2 different places where it prompts for a user name. One is fairly early in the install; it asks for a user name and a company name (the company name is optional), The second is right at the end of the setup process, and usually during a safe reload, the second one doesn't even come up. But this time it did and my friend typed in "Owner", and he used "Owner" at the first name prompt also. Reloading the drivers isn't a big deal, and, honestly, just wiping isn't a big deal either. It's just odd that we have to reload drivers on a safe re-install, and that it created a 'new' user instead of simply using the former admin account as the default user. I've done dozens of safe reloads (I wasn't present at this one but I did field a few phone calls) and I've seen this happen before, but rarely, and usually only when the OS was really corrupt before the reload. His wasn't that messed up; but he was getting an IE error that we couldn't seem to get rid of, and a safe reload seemed the easiest route....

    Thanks for the clarification.
