Does anyone have experience using Remote Assistance from either Windows Messenger or Windows Live Messenger?
I have checked all settings on both computers that need to connect but we are unable to connect using any method. Both pc's are running XP and using XP firewall. Both are also using Mcaffee Anti-virus. When I accept the invitation to connect for remote assistance, it tries to connect but I get a message saying cannot connect and host name could not be resolved.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the help. Thanks

Try to save it as a file type. Then just manually send it over Windows Messenger.

I had a lot of things open in the taskbar and one of them was a popup that you had to answer before you could connect. It doesn't flash or anything. HTH.

I will check for the pop-up in the task bar. If anyone has any other ideas please post as I am trying to get connected to the other computer as soon as possible to help with a major problem/ Thanks.

Try disabling ALL firewalls, including windows firewall. Are either one of you behind a firewall? Disable it.

    Or:
Within Advanced Firewall settings change to allow connections from the internet, within windows firewall, or your personal firewall.

Also, if you or your friend is behind a router, you need to enable "TCP port 3389".

Can anyone direct me to a decent tutorial for XP Remote Assistance? I have never used it, but would be interested.
