XP Repair install trouble

One shutdown stopped my computer from functioning properly, so I repair installed Windows XP two times to no avail, my computer restarts indefinately. First, I choose which instance of XP to use, then I tell it to start normaly, or in safe mode, or in last known good configuration, and it continues for a second, the black screen changes tint slightly and then it restarts. the process will repeat and repeat forever. I dont know what the possible problem could be. Please help me.

What do you mean by "First, I choose which instance of XP to use"?

How many operating systems do you have installed?

 

It says I have 3 installed... but they are all xp, and only one USED TO work... The other two are ghosts. Please help. (sorry about not posting in the software section, but i cant boot, so i figured it might be hardware)

 

I am going for a 3rd repair install, but I doubt it will fix the computer.

 

Well, the third time did not fix it, if anyone has any suggestions of what to do in repair console, I will try them.

 

it doesnt work in safemode?

what did you do before the problem started.(install new hardware/software)

 

If you have 3 Operating Systems installed, you could edit your boot.ini file and then manually delete any traces of the other 2, but it would really be easier to format and start again, and this time do it properly so you only have 1 Operating System installed.

If you are unusure of the procedure, then post back and someone will explain it.

 

i used xp lite to add a 4th os that is working for the moment... I will probably just use xp lite.

 

Mate I don't really understand what you are saying, but do you and why do you, want 4 operating systems?

Why not just format and install one if that's what you want?

 

I do not want to format my hard drive. I do not have 4 operating systems, I have 2 that work, and the other 2 are just remnants. It doesnt matter about them. I have installed XP lite now, but I would like to fix my normal XP install. I can start up in XP lite now, and get into windows and stuff, but all my settings, and programs are screwed up, so I would still like to fix my Normal OS install so that I can use that instead of XP lite. I found 2 posts elsewhere that describe my problem very exactly.

The second link has more to do with my problem, as I have a Nvidia card, but they fixed it by system restore, while I had system restore disabled, so that is not an option.
I would really appreciate your help in fixing this problem.

Basically, I have a badly damaged registry, and I need to figure out a way to fix it. I need a program or something that I can have fix all registry entries on the computer or something, even while they are not being run by the system. Right now, my computer has 2 OSes installed and while I am running #2, I would like to fix #1. Thanks in advance.

 

just checked my bootini file, and it is fine. That's not the problem.
