I like to know if it is OK or possible to create a XP slipstream CD on a W98se system.

    Thanks

I gotta ask...why not? You're just extracting the files from CD to hard drive, slipstreaming the service pack into it, then burning it back to CD. It shouldn't really have anything to do with the OS you're running. I've never really thought about it...the slipstream I did was on my XP box...but why not 98SE?

Either way, full instructions for the slipstreaming can be found here:

Because thats how Microsoft designed the Service Pack.

Feel free to try it, I have :)

It will give you an error straight off.

You are not just extracting files, its an installation program thats doing it. That program will not run under a 9x kernel.

Thanks for the info since you have tried it that is good enough, I was thinking along the lines of Wavetar.
I am glad I ask so I don't have to waist my time.
    Again thanks

    Can use some help.
Since I do suspect that my system may have foreign agents lurking I did follow Major Attitude step by step article on removing spyware & viruses. Along the way there are some things not clear to me,like installing Ad-aware VX2 Cleaner Plug-in is there any settings to set or anything specific to check or click? And "look for the immunize feature and use it" , at what point do you activate this.
Since I cannot get online in safe mode I did the ON-LINE scan in NORMAL mode, at the end the system seems OK.

The next step I need to create a slip stream XP-CD by following Elders Geek instructions I was able to complete the operation.
But how do I test to make sure it functions properly.
    Just browsing around I decided to do system compatability check, and got the following windows setup warning;

Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered.

What I noticed after changing the Microsoft Corporation.img name to Bootimg.bin that the modified date is 12/31/1899 5:00:00 PM
Is this the cause of the problem I am having and how can I fix it. Otherwise this CD is useless.
    Thanks
