    Hi,

I've upgraded to XP SP2. All seems to work OK (bit slower, but that's no great surprise...) except the Hotmail Popper programme I use to download e-mail from my hotmail account no longer works.

Trying to download through Hotmail Popper in Outlook Express gives me this error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Hotmail Popper', Server: '127.0.0.2', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Trying to do so in Mailwasher gives me this error:
No route to Host - the destination host is unreachable

I don't think this is a Firewall problem: I use Zonealarm, and have tried closing it with no success. I've made sure the XP Firewall is off, and have added Hotmail Popper as an exception just to be sure. Aside from Hotmail Popper, internet access works fine.

    Popper's settings are:
    Address: 127.0.0.2
    POP port: 110
    SMTP port: 25

I haven't changed these settings, and it was working fine before SP2, so I think that must have broke something. Any idea as to what, or how to fix this?

    Thanks,

    Jon

have you checked the developers site to see if there are any incompatabilities with SP2?

    Kodo,

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I have done - and the list of problems on the Microsoft site as well. Nothing's mentioned on either, and I'm running the latest version of Hotmail Popper.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that their software was part of the group of software that was rendered inoperable by SP2. Not that it's SP2's fault as it fixes previously exploited areas by developers that shouldn't have been.

Have you contacted them to see if they are aware of your issue?

I noticed that you're using 127.0.0.2 for your address, have you tried the default 127.0.0.1 ?

have you re-install the popper app?

Mailwasher works ok for me in relation to hotmail & MSN email access... is your version upto date?

    Hi,

I had the address set to 127.0.0.2 so I could run my virus checker as a proxy server at .01. Setting the address to 127.0.0.1 did fix the problem - thanks for the suggestion. Still not sure why SP2 would block the 127.0.0.2 address.... Anyway, now I just need to figure out a way to get my virus checker (AVK) running as a proxy server - or, I guess, just check e-mails after arrival.

Thanks again, much better with e-mail working...

perhaps it's the new windows firewall ?

Shouldn't be the firewall - I turned this off, as I use Zone Alarm. I'd certainly hope MS wouldn't have made parts of the Firewall impossible to disable...
