XP SP2 install problem

Ok, here we go. I automatically downloaded SP2 yesterday and went to install. One window popped up, then another asking be to click next. I did and nothing happened for 15 minutes so aborted. Tried to run again. This time it got to backing up the registry file and hung up for 30 minutes, so I aborted again. Re-ran a third time letting it sit at backing up the resgistry files for 1 1/2 hours. Nothing, so I aborted it again. Now, I don't even get the update icon on my tool bar so that I can try it again. The only program I have that needed to be turned off was Norton's Anti virus. Any suggestions?? How do I get the update icon on my tool bar again so I can at least try another install?

 

Right Click My computer --> Properties-->Automatic Updates -->Offer Updates again that i have previously hidden.

Should do the trick.

Else download the full 260Mb version if you have Broadband

 

I tried going to my computer and clicking on show updates that are hidden but the option was not highlighted. Guess I'll have to wait until I can download the full version. I do have broadband so I just have to find the right link.

First, Halo, thanks for the link.

Second, I downloaded the full version and ran it only for it to get hung on backing up my registry again. So, I rebooted in SAFE mode and re-ran the install without any problems.

Will let you know in a day or so if everything else is running fine.
