    Hi

Sadly you likely wont get to chat to a real person to just order a CD, I'm afraid.

Alternative suggestion is IF possible could you ask a friend if they are on broadband to do both order it ( for a backup reason, good to have the CD ) for you and also download it so you can get it installed sraight away?

*I mention broadband as the full download is 266MB in size*

DO also run some virus/malware checkers on your PC and check for XP SP2 updates for any security programs you have like Norton, McAfee as they can fail an install of SP2 as many new additions to the Windows software were added when SP2 was released.

The full SP2 for XP download is here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

if i could find someone with broadband (thru cable company)

could i just take my laptop to their house and hook it up to their cable?

does it matter to the internet provider what computer is hooked up to their service?

That should be fine but after you get it, burn it to CD or even better integrate SP2 using nLite or RyanVM. It'll save you time if you need to reinstall if you have a full XP CD.

Well, I know its been a couple years since I have done it, but we used to send out SP2 CDs. Its in the same order system as microsoft software replacements, and back then, they were free. Techs could do it, so could customer service and billing. I can't imagine MS generating ill will by stopping such a practice, but perhaps.

I know for sure that users can still Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD (<~from this website link) because I just ordered one for a relative a few weeks back. Although the website stated "allow approximately 4-6 weeks for shipping" it actually took only about a week for the CD to arrive.

The Win XP SP2 CD was originally offered free of charge from Microsoft; around the time that SP2 was first released. However currently they charge a small fee for shipping and handling, tax, etc. which comes to under $2 total – I think it actually cost me like $1.79

    Good Luck!

I've tried this 3 times and this is what I get...

    https://oms.one.microsoft.com/anonymous/XPSP2NA467/en-us/OM/Errors/ErrorPage.asp?errConstant=4004

in case the link doesn't work here is what it says...

    The following error(s) has occurred:
    continue
    shopping

We are unable to process your order at this time

Microsoft limits the quantity of Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD-ROMs that may be ordered by a single customer to 5 CD-ROMs. Please note that 1 CD can be installed on several computers running Windows XP, and can be shared with others. Accordingly, you may not order more than the ten (10) CD-ROMs limit.

If you are a business or other institution looking for multiple Service Pack 2 CDs to distribute, please contact your local Microsoft representative or account manager for more information.

I've never requested anything from Microsoft,

    it doesn't make sense

Options on this are, the servers are busy at present with the post Christmas, new PCs getting updates.. so do try again later ( folk on broadband will likely get through ok if servers are busy, its Dialup users that tend to loose connection or get weird messages ), or that your IP ( internet address ) being dialup is in a block and a few folk on that IP block could have ordered CDs in the past as XP SP2 is over 3yrs old.

Maybe try ( note: old listing of mine dont know if steps are current )

    Dial 1-800-MICROSOFT.
    Press 2 for Technical Support.
    Press 1 for Personal Support.
Press 2 for All Other Issues.
Live person will ask for a name and phone number.

BUT try a friend or nice neighbour to see if they will download this for you.

    Hi

Worth a try and I need up update contact lists, but try this link as its the Parts Dept of Microsoft and you can order Service Pack Cds from them http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=326246 ( if the link doesnt show as its the newer version of the support site at Microsoft as they are updating below is the contact details )

Also and I know your on dialup and it could take 15hrs or more to download the Full SP2 and Dialup can be fiddly and cut you off so starting a long download from scratch is a pain, but you could use a Free Download Manager, what these apps do is to manage a download for best speed and they can and do allow you to resume a download if your kicked offline or you want all your speed back to surf you just pause and then resume when you want, so no starting from scratch.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Download_Express_d449.html suggesting this as its the smallest in size to get for a dialup user that is good to use ( there are others but they are larger and will take time to download )

If you decide to try it, just install and run then use this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en to get the full SP2 ( may on Dialup take a few days but still better that 4-6 weeks if ordering the CD )

Other options apart from aforementioned friend or neighbour who would be kind enough to download the SP2 for you, and its best to get the full one I listed above to burn to disk, as if you need to re-install you can use that version instead of having to take the time to get this update of Windows/Automatic Update.

See if a local PC store/shop/user group has a spare copy of the SP2 Update CD they could give you, these CDs when SP2 was released were floating aroudn freely on PC magazines etc

Someone you work with may have a spare copy of this Update
