Aight, im sure this has been answered before, in fact i think ive fixed this problem before, but i cant find it in the search OR on google...

Basically, what happens is that when i boot up my computer, it hangs on the desktop for about 30 seconds, the desktop refreshes, and then anything i clicked on in that time will load up. Weirdness!

    Erm, possibly related specs :
    AMD Athlon XP 2000+
    Abit-AN7(nF2)
    GeForce 4 Ti 4200
    Windows XP Pro SP1

    Correcting System Hang at Startup

If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can't access the Start button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but
it didn't work for me. Here's what you do:

    1. Go to the control panel/admin tools/.
    2. Go to the 'Services' tab, find the 'Background Intelligent Transfer' service, disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

Also if not on a network disable 'workstation' at the same place as above.

nah, disabled that service yonks ago... but i checked it anyway after the re-install for my new hardware, still disabled. I need the workstation service for my networking but i could try disabling that as well..Ill check what depends on it...

    Alerter
    Messenger
    Net Logon
    Computer Browser
    RPC Locator

    Hmm, ill try disabling it..

Goldy,,Mine started doing that quite a while ago, and I finally found out that for some reason, I had about 5 things in my "network connections" ,, 4 of which I either didn't have, or never used. The freezup stopped after deleting the four. Might not have anything to do with your problem,,

Hmm, seems like a common problem with not so common causes.. I do have a firewire network thing in my network connections that i dont use but unfortunatley i cant get rid of it! argh! i seem to have nabbed it by inadvertantly doing a bootvis or somthing, but whatever it is, the problem is gone now, heh! thanks guys
