XP 'Start' button...

Is there an easy way to change the color of the XP 'Start' button? I have adopted the "Royale" theme from WinXP MCE and I've used the Desktop > Appearance window to modify most of the colors so that everything is shades of blue... EXCEPT for the gnarly green Start button. I've done some research, and all I've found is to open up the 'msstyles' with Resource Hacker and mess around with it in a BMP editor (like GiMP or Paint.NET) and then save back in to the msstyles with Resource Hacker. This seems like a big league PITA. I have a registry 'hack' somewhere that tells you how to change the word "Start" to the word of your choice as long as it's 5 letters or less, so changing the color shouldn't be that hard.... Or maybe there's an easy way to incorporate the Vista 'orb' in place of the Start button. I've researched that, and there's apparently a free app that does it, but it comes up as 'Forbidden' when I try to download it from DeviantArt even though I'm a member there. There's also one floating around the torrent sites but I try to stay away from those.... so.... any wisdom?

Interesting link.... I'll have to give it a go sometime. However, I did find a freeware app for XP that changes the green 'Start' button to the Vista Ultimate 'orb'. I'll probably use it :-D I also found a full theme pack that has ported the WinXP MCE themes to XP, but it uses the Vista 'orb' and the Vista start menu. I also found an app that makes any open window transparent with the use of a hotkey! Pretty cool!

Yeah... ye olde Resource Hacker.... it seems to come up a lot when looking into changing the Start button color.... I think I'll try this first... it seems MUCH easier, and I'm all for 'easy'!

 

You'll have to click "look & feel" first, and then scroll down to the start button sections.
