My niece has an XP machine that autostarts Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator when it boots up. I've looked in the programs/start director, nothing is there. Where else would a program like stash itself to autostart upon bootup in XP?

Probably too simple to be true but have you checked the CD drive? From the name of the program I assume it would open when a blank CD is entered.

use the run command w/ msconfig and go into the startup tab.... then just disable what you dont want to run @ startup... my opinion is that if i want it to run i will start it myself... the only items i normally leave on at startup are security/protection programs. for some reason though a lot of xp machines cant find the msconfig file to run, if so just google msconfig.exe and you can just dload the file and place it where you want.

May I suggest that if you do disable the Roxio program that you test the system to make sure you can still format a blank disc. After disabling the program just right click on the cd drive with a blank disc inserted and check to make sure format is still an option in the drop down menu. I seem to remember Roxio/Sonic programs that autostart being solely responsible for this function.

Download Startup Control Panel and use that to stop Roxio, it is a really good program and IMHO a better alternative to MSCONFIG which Microsoft say should not be used to permanently disable program startups.
