I had a crash and had to do an XP OS reinstall. When I restarted my computer, most of my desktop settings had changed and most of my files were gone.

From what I can tell, a new "user" has been created under "Documents and Settings" (bullseye.NET1) and when I boot my system, the startup goes to that user and its settings. But my original user name (bullseye) is still in the same "Documents and Settings" folder...

So my question is, how do I get the computer to go back to the original "bullseye" user and load all my programs and settings from there instead of the "bullseye.NET1" settings?

I have moved all the files that were transfered into the bullseye.net1 back to the original, MINUS the NTUSER.dat files, as I was told NOT to move those because they are security settings or something to that effect....

    THanks in advance.

    Bullseye....

You can get back into your old profile by: start > run > "control userpasswords2". First, do you see your old username "bullseye" listed in that program? If not, stop there and post a reply. If you see your old username listed, then follow these directions: If the box that says "users must enter a username and password to access this computer" is unchecked then, check the box, and then uncheck the box. You will see a box pop up asking for the default account. Type your old username, and make sure not to enter any password. If the box that says "users must enter a username and password to access this computer" is already checked, then uncheck it and do the same as above. Try rebooting to see if you go into your old account directly.

Now as far as why you have a new account on your system... that's a different story I think. Try the above things and post the results.

"First, do you see your old username "bullseye" listed in that program?"

Yes, it is there, along with Administrator and ASPNET. but no "Bullseye.NET1"

"...If the box that says "users must enter a username and password to access this computer" is already checked, then uncheck it and do the same as above."

When I unchecked/checked, nothing happened. No pop up. I hit "apply" after unchecking and then a box similar to what you described popped up.... I entered the "bullseye" with NO password.

"Try rebooting to see if you go into your old account directly."

Rebooted and loaded back up to the empty "Bullseye.NET" settings. Thank you for trying though.

A quick question, was that a repair installation, or a re-install?

    It was a repair installation.

Is this xp home or pro?

Also, do you have one account that you always use, but when you did a "repair" install of xp, you see two seperate account names under "docs and settings". This sounds really like a reinstall not a repair or a new install.

Typically, a reinstall or a new install will default the name as (for example) "Default".

But, if you were to reinstall with a computer name of say, hello, then you would have "Default.hello" as your directory. I believe. I've been known to be incorrect.

Doing something and making it work, is easier then not seeing the device and explaining how to do. But, I think with practice I shall get better.

    Sorry, for my ramblings.

    THis is XP HOME

I have only 1 account that I use. I have never set up a 2nd or 3rd. When I boot up, I am "Bullseye". When I hit start, the user name "Bullseye" is on my start menu at the top.

I had a crash and the computer asked me to put my original CD rom in and I did. It repaired the problems, but it took a good 45 minutes to do it, and I had to re-register and all that....but I think that is because upon start-up, it is going to the "bullseye.net1" settings instead of going to the original "bullseye" settings.

I would like to just delete the "bullseye.net1" folder, but when I do after transfering SOME of the switched files, and upon restart, the folder is re-created. So again, I reallly just want to keep user name "Bullseye", but have the "bullseye" settings load up instead of the "bullseye.net1" settings.

Under C: Documents and Settings, there are the following folders:

"All Users.default", "Default User", "Default User.Windows", "bullseye", and "bullseye.net1"

I'm sorry, but I am not sure what you are telling me to do here?
