My daughter has something in her startup that pops up a generic message "the shortcut is invalid" every time she logs in. How would I find what that would be and disable it so as to eliminate the message?

check the startup folder in start > all programs > Start up

could be a bad shortcut there

if its nothing there, go to start > run "msconfig" and click the start up tab check there for anything you cant find installed on the PC, ask for help if you are unsure about this feature

Another way to check is by doing: Start -> Run -> type in msconfig than press enter. CLick the tab that says startup and uncheck somthing that you dont want to startup

That's what I remembered, but, I figured out my daughter had renamed the Startup folder to the name of her former mp3 software Sonic Stage (guessing because the Startup folder contained that at one point. All is solved now that I have named the Startup folder Startup and deleted the culprit shortcut. Thanks everyone. Mark
