Updated wife's Dell laptop to 8.1 from XP. Had to do a clean install as 8.1 wouldn't upgrade from XP. Tried to download her embroidery machine software and ended with BSOD. Can't get it to accept the drivers. I'm not computer stupid but this is ticking me off. Any ideas?

Did you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant? It checks both hardware and software for Win 8 compatibility before you upgrade. There's a download link on this page though unless you have an image of XP you can roll back to first it's too late now.

Other than that you can try installing the program in compatibility mode by right clicking the installer and going to the Compatibility tab. You could also download, install and run BlueScreenView. This will will examine the crash dump files and attempt to identify the driver that caused the BSoD. You could then search for a better driver.

Thanks for the help. Yes I ran the assistant, it said the upgrade would work. Then I put the program on another laptop running 8.1, tried it, no problems, it worked fine. It is looking to replace a CLEMDRV.inf file with it's own but can't find it even though I see it in system32. I will try your suggestions later today and post the results. Appreciate the assistance.
