Is it possible to get an HP flatbed scanner driver for Windows 7. I had assumed that ISO standards would make older devices a standard by now or do hardware makers design them to go in the bin with each OS?

    HP Scanjet 3770 flatbed.

HP only list up to Win Vista but you could install those and try in Compatibility mode.

So computer hardware is not built to a standard?
What is the reason for that?

It is built to certain standards. However, each device has it's own custom software called "drivers". These drivers are tailored to function with the operating system your computer is using. With older "legacy" devices, like flatbed scanners which I'm pretty sure are no longer manufactured, no one has written the software (drivers) for newer operating systems, i.e. Windows 7, 8, or 10. The equipment is simply outdated, and multifunction printers have taken their place.

If you want to use an older driver with a newer version of Windows, that is one of the reasons why Microsoft created "Compatibility Mode".

Thanks all It just seems strange to find a piece of equipment turns to scrap because the yes/no buttons decide not to function. A car will go on independently no matter who is operating it, so long as you put fuel and electricity in the respective tanks. Car manufacturers found a way around this in the 1950s and got to sell us a car every two or thee years culminating in models that were so bad they were outright dangerous.

I rather suspect that the ability to photograph a sheet of paper would go on until the parts of the camera wore out clicking rather than the finger pressing its button became changed as with a new operator.

So I am suffering from HP management deciding I've had it for, NT, XP and Visa so now it is time it stopped working and we sell him another. After all I shouldn't be expecting it to photograph bits of paper this far into "legacy".

I have never understood that. What is the old mechanism designed to do that there is a replacement mechanism designed to do so much better that I absolutely must have the latest?
Surely all modes are compatibility modes?

    Where does it all end?
Will American companies design drivers that won't work for Muslims one day?
So how long before Iran sets its sights no on airport but on computer ports?

I know I am being ridiculous but there is no such thing as obsolete scanners. I just want to understand why anyone would accept that there is. And how many millions of people have agreed to throw working machines into the pit because of an upgrade. How is that an up-grade. Sorry for the boring rant. Where is the page at the end of the internet that tells me why?

    Has the suggestions worked?

BTW I have a MAYA44 Audio Interface Card. The support CD has drivers for Windows 2000 & XP. But on the site, I can download drivers for Windows Vista, 7, 8/8.1 & 10.

I have the manual but the electronic signals to actually press the right buttons don't work. I can't help thinking that for the same money you could buy a stand alone scanner that just needs a power source and a camera memory card and it wouldn't need to know my name and email, or whether I am happy with the terms and conditions. And how much of an improvement is my latest operating system?

It didn't suddenly grow too sophisticated to be run on a mere computer, it is a camera that used to run on Windows 2000 even Windows 98 and that only needed 3/4 of a Gigabite to operate. How many bells and whistles does it have that windows Seven can't touch it?

I will have to write and tell Alex Jones to forget about the World Trade Centre. Hewlitt Packard are going broke and think I am going to rescue them by buying a scanner for Microsoft.

Let's go back to the beginning... ;)
You wanted Windows 7 drivers for your HP Scanjet 3770 Digital Flatbed Scanner.

    1. Did you get them?
    2. Does your scanner show in Devices and Printers?
    3. Is the scanner WIA compliant? (Check the manual)

    1, No
    2, No
3, I found instructions on how to vote and a picture of a key number in the manual, along with a bad likeness of Jay Leno on a page of Japanese script. There are three hundred pages of this and it is the middle of the night here. I have a Nikon DSLR that is easier to operate. The computer rebooted twice and asked for the second CD then failed again. What is WIA?
Windows Image Acquisition, got it. Yes it is, in fact it is an HP Scanjet 3770 Digital Flatbed Scanner. Thanks for asking.

It doesn't turn to 'crap' per se.
I'm using a Canon i560 inkjet printer, a Canon Canoscan 3200F flatbed scanner and a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 webcam on Windows 10. They also worked fine in Win Vista, 7 and 8.
All three of them are ancient.
You just have to know to use the very latest drivers and then use compatibility mode when installing.
