XP urlmon.dll error....HELP please

Hi All!

Recently rebooted computer and had no desktop icons. Opened task manager and can run Firefox but not IE. Try to run virus/malware software and always get urlmon.dll errors. Tried to boot into safe mode and can't get that to work. Tried to run msconfig and also get the urlmon.dll error. Tried register32...no luck; tried to do system restore..it looks like it will run but doesn't...no luck. Not sure what I or hubby did to get this type of virus or problem. UGH. Any suggestions. Hate to wipe it clean and start over. Not sure I can even get my stuff off hard drive. Any thoughts or comments welcome. Thank you!!

download and run Ubunto off a cd.. export all your files to an external hard drive. save all your files

are you getting the urlmon.dll error when you open msconfig?

 

Yes I get the error when running msconfig. I hate to wipe it clean unless I really have to. Any other ideas?

 

do you still have your operating system cd?

What OS are you running?

maybe do a system restore.doubt it will work

 

I'm using XP. I can't do start run...no task bar. Can I run it via the task manager?
