XP will not boot past welcome screen

After taking a windows update my comp will not boot past welcome screen. It shows my user name when I click on name it starts to load personal settings then stops loading starts to save personal settings then stops responding back at welcome/login screen. Comp will start and run in safe mode but will not run with networking support. All malware was removed just the day before, very little found using Super antispyware, Scanned with AVG no viruses found. Have done a repair install with XP disc, rebuilt boot sector. Nothing works. Have created new user profile and tried still does same thing. I am lost. I really do not want to do a complete backup and reinstall but I may have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I'm not big on interpreting error messages but from safe mode>right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery and uncheck"Automatically Restart". See if you get a blue screen with an error number on next boot.

 

I had this happen to me before, you might have to find another xp installation disc, if the one you are using is not genuine. the problem occurs when you install the updates ,don't bother reinstalling from the same disc, then doing automatic updates, you will probably get the same result. try getting a newer version XP kit or doing the updates manually till you find the one that's causing the problem.
