XP won't allow internet software

Fire wall down, multiple service ports opened. Xp won't allow any software except IE to access the net. Not even the auto updates....ideas?

Help us out here. Little more specific information on your system, the software you refer too, anti-virus and firewall, when did this start, do you have sp2 installed, etc?

All right... so what firewall are you using, and what is the specific problem with it? How are you monitoring the service ports - port scanner? Can you run ping or traceroute? We need as much information as you can give to help us help you.

 

Sounds like you may have some services stopped or disabled.

SERVICE-STATUS-STARTUP TYPE
Automatic Updates-Started-Automatic
BITS-Manual
DHCP Client-Started-Automatic
DNS Client-Started-Automatic
HTTP SSL-Manual
IPSEC Services-Started-Automatic
Network Connections-Started-Manual
TCP/IP NetBios Helper-Started-Automatic

Check those services for starters.

 

Try reinstalling the firewall.
