XP Won't run setup programs

I have an Acer computer that I just purchased.. M410 is the model number.

It has Windows XP Professional on it. It has a dual core processor.
etc..



I can't run any setup programs or autorun programs from the CD Rom Drive... I can view the contents etc... but when I click on the program it pauses and then just sits there.

Any thoughts???

This may sound stupid, but do you get the same symptoms if you right-click the setup file and select 'Open'?

Do you get the same symptoms if you highlight the setup file with a single left click, and press 'Enter'?

 

I have tried the right click and open and get the same results, but not the left click and enter.

 

I have checked in the system properties and the device says that it is enabled and working properly...

It worked when I first got the machine, and then within a couple of weeks I started getting this problem.

I have the same problem if I try putting the software on a Jump drive and installing it also.

 

It almost sounds like your PC was hijacked and the perpetrator disabled your access rights so you will have trouble countering the attack or deleting his spyware. Run your antivirus and any spyware apps you already have installed from safe mode to see if they find anything.
